Brief Guide to Copyright & Fair Use

Resources for the Southwestern community

Public Performance Rights for Film

Films owned by the library with public performance rights can be shown to the campus community without paying additional fees, with certain restrictions. To find a list of available films, search Worldcat@SU for nt:"public performance rights" (use quotation marks) and limit the results to Video, and to Southwestern University A. Frank Smith, Jr. Library Center.

When searching for a specific title, the full item record will say Note: INCLUDES PUBLIC PERFORMANCE RIGHTS if the library has acquired those rights.

Public performance rights are generally not available for feature films.

Copyright & Media

An important part of the mission of Audiovisual Services is to provide copyright assistance regarding media to the campus community. Find valuable information about Copyright for Media on the Audio/Visual Equipment and Technology site.
