Managing Your Online Scholarly and Professional Presence

A very brief guide to creating and maintaining your professional identity online

Make Your Work Discoverable via SU Scholar

There are many freely available options for sharing your scholarly work online. Professional networking sites like ResearchGate, Academia.edu, and Mendeley are just a few. See more information about those sites on this guide's Professional Networking tab.

SU Scholar is Southwestern University's institutional repository, preserving and providing access to content created by members of the University. Each item submitted to SU Scholar is cataloged, with metadata added to optimize its discoverability by search engines such as Google and Google Scholar. It includes faculty working papers, journal articles, conference presentations, book chapters, and creative works. It also highlights the best in student work, including honors theses, select capstone projects, and more. SU Scholar is open access compliant.

For more information, see the SU Scholar guide.

Discoverability  Indexed by Google, Google Scholar, etc, and easily found on the free web.

Citation impact  Works published in open access repositories are cited more frequently than those that reside only behind a pay wall.

Stable URL  The URL of your article will never change!  No more broken links.
